Event description:

Our community is being given the tremendous opportunity to join the efforts of the newly formed Valley Chevra Kadisha. A chevra kadisha is a sacred society that watches over and cares for Jews between death and burial. These volunteers, people just like you and me, take on the communal responsibility of shmirah, watching over the body, and taharah, ritually preparing the body for burial in accordance with age-old Jewish custom. The chevra kadisha exists not only to provide this beautiful service for our loved ones and comfort to their families, but also to provide the opportunity for community members to find a new source of personal sanctity and devotion through this mitzvah.
The Valley Chevra Kadisha seeks volunteers to train and serve. If you are interested in training to be a volunteer, email If you'd like additional information, go to The training will be held at Valley Beth Shalom in Encino on July 30-31, with a Zoom seminar on June 20. Please do not delay in reaching out.
