Sisterhood membership offers you many choices and connects you to a deeply committed group of women. These women are of all ages and backgrounds; many hold professional positions in the community, some are full time homemakers, while others are retired. What brings them all together is their love of Shomrei Torah Synagogue, Judaism, learning and their desire to support our synagogue.

Make this the year that you join Sisterhood and attend one of the many interesting Sisterhood sponsored lectures, activities, dinners or programs. Interested in doing a little more? How about helping us with program development, fundraising, participating in a Women's Shabbat Service or Women's Seder, volunteering in the Sisterhood Judaica Gift Shop, Social Action/Israeli Affairs? Whenever you have the time or the inclination to participate, we are holding a place for you!

February 2018 Newsletter

Linda s

On Sunday, January 28th, Sisterhood held our annual Mah Jongg Tournament. It was another huge success thanks to the hard work and dedication of a team of very talented and caring people. Todah Rabah to Karen Karchem, Jeannie Raffle, Anita Persoff, Esther Feingold, Gail Kogen and Sue Moss for organizing everything so beautifully. And the food…well…it’s the talk of the Mah Jongg Tournament circuit! One player asked me: “Do you know why I play in this Tournament at Shomrei Torah?” I asked her, “Why?” She said, “Because of the Kugle!” In case you didn’t know…Jeannie Raffle makes one of the most delicious Kugles ever! Thank you to Georgina Einsiedler and her culinary team: Jeannie Raffle, Leah Kuluva, Carol Levin, Judy Levin, Karen Daks, Rosy Ayala, Ana Ayala, Parvin and Bob for preparing and serving the yummy Tournament meals. On Saturday, January 20th, Sisterhood hosted a fabulous Torah Fund Dinner. Sue Moss received the Chayei Olam Award and Carrie Vischjager received the Kol Isha Award. Rhoda Lipsig and Josh Warshawsky gave inspirational speeches about Torah Fund. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Balabusta. After dinner we were treated to a beautiful concert by the A Cappella Group, Tizmoret, from Queens College in New York. Todah Rabah to Robin for beginning the evening with a beautiful Havdallah. Thank you to Judy Yaniv Goldberg, and her team…Robin Solomon, Jackie Ben Efraim, Rebecca Marcus, Lynn Freeman, Gail Kogen, Sue Moss, Anita Persoff, Rebecca Goldson, Randi Alfasso, Joan Cohen and Sue Weiss. To quote John F Kennedy, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” I will be forever grateful to all of you for making these two events spectacular! B’shalom…
Linda
