Sisterhood

Sisterhood membership offers you many choices and connects you to a deeply committed group of women. These women are of all ages and backgrounds; many hold professional positions in the community, some are full time homemakers, while others are retired. What brings them all together is their love of Shomrei Torah Synagogue, Judaism, learning and their desire to support our synagogue.

Make this the year that you join Sisterhood and attend one of the many interesting Sisterhood sponsored lectures, activities, dinners or programs. Interested in doing a little more? How about helping us with program development, fundraising, participating in a Women's Shabbat Service or Women's Seder, volunteering in the Sisterhood Judaica Gift Shop, Social Action/Israeli Affairs? Whenever you have the time or the inclination to participate, we are holding a place for you!

December 2017 Newsletter

Linda s

November was a busy month for Sisterhood! Thank you to all of you who helped with our many projects and programs.

Sisterhood participated in Mitzvah Day on November 5, 2017. Our projects included making Hanukkah Cards for the IDF Soldiers. The JLC kids did a great job with this! We also made Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches for the hungry. Two of our Sisterhood members, Jackie BenEfraim and Rebecca Marcus assisted Hazak in repairing our siddurim and chumashim.

Sisterhood sponsored children’s meals at a recent JLC Community Shabbat Dinner and will do the same throughout the year, including the STS Community Hanukkah Dinner on December 12 th . On November 15, 2017 we had our Sisterhood Hanukkah Program. Elisabeth Kesten gave an informative drosh…we played Dreidel for prizes…Robin Solomon lead us in song…we shared stories about our favorite menorahs and we had a gift exchange. Refreshments included Sufganyiot.

Our Sisterhood Board Retreat took place on November 19 th. We held an important discussion about Sisterhood at STS…followed by a catered lunch from the Tel Aviv Grill…and then we enjoyed the beauty and splendor of the Japanese Garden in Van Nuys. Carol Levin is continuing to lead our Crafting Group who knit and crochet blankets for the less fortunate. They meet every month if you would like to join them.

Planning ahead…
Our Torah Fund Dinner will take place on January 20, 2018. It will be a spectacular evening of food and professional entertainment. We will also be honoring our Award Recipients.

Our Maj Jongg Tournament will take place on January 28. 2018. This is an important fundraiser for Sisterhood. We will also have Social Play for those who prefer a more casual Maj experience.

Jewish Women’s Theatre will begin on February 11, 2018. Tickets are available on line. If you’d like to be a sponsor, we would appreciate it very much.

Wishing you and yours a beautiful Hanukkah. May the lights of Hanukkah usher in a better world for all humankind.

B’shalom,
Linda Wolf
